Our Elders

Our elders seek to fulfill their biblical function by focusing on the following: protecting ministry direction, provide oversight to operational budget, as well as financial accountability, ensure ministry alignment and implementation, protect the integrity of the church (theological, relational, philosophical), and assess overall leadership effectiveness through accountability. This specific focus allows our elders to lovingly shepherd our church into the future.

Warren Barber - Chairman

Warren has been married to his wife, Cindy for 37 years and has been attending Southbrook for over 5 years.  They have 2 adult daughters, Brie and Brittany, who live in Atlanta. Brittany is married to Caleb and they have a son, Samuel. Warren graduated from Bethel University in MN and is currently working as a sales manager for a building product manufacturer based in Charlotte. Warren, enjoys meeting people through the Southbrook Discovery Groups, reading, biking, golf and going to the beach, and spending time with his grandson, Sam. Two of Warren's greatest spiritual influences on his life are The Navigators (Discipleship Ministry) and Bible Study Fellowship (BSF).

Jonathan Bareham - Discipleship Pastor - Elder

Jonathan has been part of the Southbrook family for eleven years.  Prior to assuming a staff role in 2018, he volunteered in various areas of ministry including; growth groups, marriage, prayer, and discipleship. In addition to his role as Discipleship Pastor, Jonathan is an elder and teaching pastor.  He is passionate about meeting people where they are and helping them take their next steps toward becoming more like Jesus.  Originally from England, Jonathan and his wife, Judith, have been married for 26 years and have three children.

 

Shane Freeman - Lead Pastor - Elder

Shane and his wife, Amber have been married for over 19 years. They have two girls (Scarlett & Sophie) who keep them on their toes and bring them incredible joy. Shane is a graduate of Dallas Theological Seminary where he received a Masters of Theology (ThM). He enjoys running, movies, eating Mexican food (particularly chips and salsa), and reading theology. On his day off, he loves kicking back and hanging out with his girls.

Mike Griffin - Elder

Mike is a Charlotte native, graduated from Montreat College, and served in the US Army.  He has been married to his wife, Linda for 27 years and has 2 adopted sons from Africa, Munyenneh and Kato. Mike worked for 37 years at AT&T and is now retired. Mike, known as Mr. Mike, first came to Southbrook in January of 2000 and got involved in Children’s Ministry right away. He has considered it an honor to serve as a volunteer in Southbrook Children’s Ministry for the past 19 years. He and Linda like to brag that the 4th and 5th grade annual fall retreat, 18 years and counting, is the longest continually running event at Southbrook! Children’s Ministry is Mr. Mike's first love and once he retires, he plans on spending as much of his time as possible as a Children’s Ministry volunteer at Southbrook.

Bob Seavey - Elder

Bob is husband to Barb (33 years) and dad to 4 adult children spread out around the globe, and spending time with them gives him great joy. He grew up in California, and began surfing at a young age. He still loves the beach as well as soccer, running, gardening, reading a good book, working with his hands (fixing things or creating things), ethnic food and learning about cultures and people. Bob and Barb serve with Wycliffe Bible Translators and lived in Peru and Ecuador for 20 years. He’s passionate about those people groups around the world who do not have access to the word of God in their language, and too, encouraging others in their walk with God.

 


David Taylor - Elder

David has been married to his wife Caitlin for 16 years and they have 3 children together: Sienna, Charlie and Henry.  He has been attending Southbrook Church since 2014.  David volunteers at Southbrook on the worship team and jointly with is wife Caitlin as marriage mentors. He grew up in Barnsley, England before moving to New York in 1997 where he obtained a degree in Psychology and a Masters Degree in Finance. David works in Tax but in his free time loves to play, watch, coach and talk about soccer.

Kevin Kendrick- Elder

Kevin and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 27 years and are blessed with 3 grown children, Tradd, Abigail and Emma. They have been attending Southbrook for 3 years. Kevin is native of Atlanta, graduated from Furman University with a business degree and works in the shipping industry. Kevin serves in the marriage mentor ministry, production support and men’s ministry. During his time off, he enjoys spending time with family, running and playing golf.
