As the true extent of the devastation in western North Carolina and other affected areas becomes clear, the scale of the need is overwhelming. As a result, there is great opportunity for followers of Jesus to show His love, care and compassion to those who are hurting. We want to be both wise and effective in our response and will therefore focus our efforts on partnering with known and trusted organizations who have the expertise and experience to have the greatest possible impact. We are encouraging everyone to pray, give and volunteer.
Pray
Pray for peace, comfort and provision for those who have lost loved ones, belongings,
property and livelihoods.
Pray for safety, skill and wisdom for those involved in search, rescue and relief efforts.
Pray for many to experience God’s love and respond to the Gospel in the midst of such
difficult circumstances.
Give
Southbrook has already made a contribution of $5,000 to the Samaritan’s Purse U.S. Disaster Relief Fund. You can make your own contribution here.
Volunteer
Southbrook will be sending two teams of ten adults to serve alongside Samaritan’s Purse in the Asheville area; one from October 28th through October 30th and another from October 31st through November 2nd. Both teams are currently full but if you want to join the waitlist, you can do so here.
If you would like to volunteer as a family, community group or as an individual, you can schedule a one- or multi-day serve event directly with Samaritan’s Purse here.
We will provide updated information and opportunities as we learn more in the coming days and weeks.
"You are the light of the world. A city set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do people
light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a stand, and it gives light to all in the
house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your
good works and give glory to your Father who is in heaven." Matthew 5:14-16 ESV
