Why are we opening Southbrook Preschool?
We at Southbrook Preschool believe that the physical, social, emotional and spiritual well being of preschool children is of the utmost importance. We want to continue to provide the same caring and nurturing environment for our community as each individual family sees fit for their child.
What safety measures and precautions can I expect at Southbrook Preschool?
We have implemented enhanced sanitation protocols in all areas, with a particular focus on wiping down and disinfecting doors, handles, bathrooms, windows, counters, and other high-touch areas before, during and after preschool. Appropriate signage (e.g. The 3 Ws, Social Distancing) has been placed throughout the building. Additionally, all staff and volunteers serving will be required to have their temperature checked and a health screening conducted before entering the building.
What safety precautions will you be taking in regards to physical contact with my child?
We will be proactive in abiding by the recommendations when engaging with your child in order to reduce the spread of germs. However, we recognize the importance of consoling a child that is upset and helping children as we normally would with daily tasks. In the cases that we need to engage with your child in a physical manner we will take precautions such as wearing gloves and masks, washing our hands as well as the childs.
How long will these precautions be in place?
We will continue to follow the required and recommended advice of our government.
Do staff and children need to wear masks?
At this time staff are required to wear masks. It will be optional and at the discretion of the parent if they choose to have their child wear a mask.
Will there be any outside field trips or outside people in the building?
At this time we do have one field trip scheduled but will evaluate this and other opportunities as orders from government are issued and provided we feel that the benefits outway the risks.
Will I be able to volunteer at Preschool?
We will not have any on campus volunteer opportunities, however we will have opportunities that you may sign up for that can be done from home.
Will parents be allowed to visit the school?
At this time we are limiting the facility to staff, children and therapists. If you need to speak with the preschool director in person, please call to make an appointment and plan to wear your mask, get a temperature check and have a health screening. You will be able to meet with the director in the office.
Will I need to provide anything additional for my child?
In an effort to keep items from being shared frequently we are asking for you to supply an additional pencil box, a full set of clothes in gallon size zip-lock bag, and a set of 4 playdoughs for your child. If you wish for your child to wear a mask you will need to provide this as well.
What would it take to close Southbrook Preschool?
Decisions will be made on a case by case basis. We will follow the guidelines outlined by the government when considering a close.
If Southbrook closes on an extended basis will I be reimbursed for tuition?
If a “Stay at Home” order is issued we will be required to close the preschool. In that case, the tuition for the month in which it closes will not be reimbursed, however will not continue to collect tuition going further.
Will the preschool offer virtual learning of any kind?
We will not offer any virtual learning if the school closes for an extended period of time. However, if a class is required to quarantine for a two week period the teacher will remain in contact with the class via Google Meet once a day for 20 minutes and class work will go home with your child.
Is my child’s education compromised due to new COVID-19 procedures?
It is our goal to provide the same quality experience that we have always offered here at Southbrook Preschool. We will continue to find creative and fun ways to conduct our days in a manner that puts the health of the staff and children first.
What can families do to help?
Although there are considerable measures that we are taking to help protect the health of our children and teachers on campus, we are equally dependent upon each other for what happens off campus. Our school represents a community of families that has regular contact and interaction with one another and with the wider community. Please consider the greater health and well-being for our families during school as you weigh decisions for your own family away from school.
